Fair Trade Monitor

Independent · Volunteer-run · Free

Honest business, checked by people who care.

We are a volunteer team that scans websites for unfair trading practices (fake reviews, false claims, misleading promises) and gives companies the chance to put things right.

100% volunteers

No salaries, no commercial interests.

Always free

We never charge consumers or companies.

Anonymous reporting

Tell us what you saw. No name required.

Evidence first

Every finding is documented and cross-checked.

What we look for

Honest marketing is good business. We look for claims that mislead the people who rely on them.

Fake reviews

Paid, copied or invented testimonials and star ratings that don’t reflect real customers.

False claims

“Trusted for 20 years” from a company founded last month. Made-up history, size or experience.

Misleading prices

Fake discounts, endless countdown timers, hidden fees and invented scarcity.

Fake trust badges

Certificates, awards and “as seen in” logos that can’t be verified or simply aren’t real.

Hidden identity

Missing or false company details, untraceable addresses and invented teams.

Fake webshops

Stolen photos, text or entire stores copied from honest businesses.

How we work

Careful, proportionate and fair to everyone involved.

  1. 1

    Spot

We scan websites ourselves, or receive a report from a consumer like you.

  2. 2

    Verify

Volunteers collect and archive evidence. Nothing moves forward on a hunch.

  3. 3

    Contact

Only if we find something, we contact the company directly and explain what we found.

  4. 4

    Follow up

The company gets a fair opportunity to respond and correct the issue. After our preliminary investigation, we can pass the file on to the authorities that can impose fines.

Our principles

What you can expect from us, and what we will never do.

What we do

  • Document findings with verifiable evidence
  • Approach companies respectfully and give them a right of reply
  • Protect the privacy of people who report
  • Stay independent of any company, brand or competitor

What we don’t do

  • Sell services or accept payment from anyone
  • Claim legal or enforcement powers of our own
  • Contact companies without a documented reason
  • Give legal advice or handle individual refund disputes

Report a concern

Saw something that doesn’t feel right? Tell us. Reporting is anonymous and takes about two minutes.

Please don’t include personal data you don’t want to share. Reports are reviewed by volunteers and treated confidentially.

Frequently asked questions

Who is behind Fair Trade Monitor?

A team of volunteers who care about honest online trade, independent of any company.

Does it cost anything?

No. We don’t offer paid services, to consumers or to companies. Nobody can buy an outcome.

Is my report really anonymous?

You don’t need to give a name or email. Only add contact details if you’re happy for us to ask follow-up questions.

What happens to the company I report?

Only if our volunteers verify a problem do we contact the company, explain our findings and give them the chance to respond and fix it. After our preliminary investigation, we can also pass the file on to the authorities that can impose fines.

Can you help me get a refund?

No, we can’t handle individual disputes or give legal advice. For a personal complaint, contact your national consumer protection organisation.
